Who Owns The Internet?

“Who Owns The Internet?”

Now that is a very good question and the answer is?

NO ONE DOES!!
No single person or entity controls the internet in its entirety.

The internet is more of a concept than a physical and tangible entity because it connects networks to other networks to create its physical structure. It is a global system of cables criss-crossing countries and oceans, crossing borders and linking some of the world’s most remote locations to everyone else.

Everyday the Internet continues to grow, linking computers to it. There are also various organizations and companies that are working to extend Internet access to countries that aren’t yet connected.

The Internet is an enormous system made up of much smaller systems, so that is why it is impossible to have one single owner or entity as owner. There are many organizations, corporations, governments, schools, private citizens and service providers that all own pieces of the infrastructure, but there is no one body that owns it all.

So the answer to the question who owns the internet can be answered in two ways, in that NO ONE does but it is owned by MANY.

However there are organizations that oversee and standardize what happens on the Internet and assign IP Addresses and domain names such as the National Science Foundation, the Internet Engineering Task Force, ICANN, InterNIC and the Internet Architecture Board.

I will research these over coming days……
