What Are Pinned Posts?

“What Are Pinned Posts?”

Over the last few days whilst surfing through one of the Facebook groups that I am a member to, a couple of people were asking the above question. So as I am still learning too I went off to my search engines and found out for them. I know that it is something they could have done themselves but I like to help. I have therefore decided to post some information on the topic.

When writing a post as the administrator of the post you have the ability to display that post at the top of their page. It is very much like sticking a post-it note upon your fridge door. Prominent for all to see.

A pinned post always appears in the top left of a Page’s timeline and has a flag in its top-right corner. In the case of the normal timeline the pinned post will remain pinned for 7 days. After that, it will return to the date it was posted on the Page’s timeline.

Only posts written by the owner of the timeline are eligible to be pinned and any Posts from people who like a Page are not eligible to be pinned posts. Page admins can only pin posts created by the Page.

This applies to posts only in the normal timeline
and watch this video to learn more.

Or if you want the text version.

To pin a post to the top of your Page:

  1. Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner of your Page’s post
  2. Select Pin to Top
  3. Your pinned post will move to below the sharing tool in the top left of your Page’s timeline, and an orange flag will appear in the upper-right corner.
  4. Only one post can be pinned in Page timeline but in Groups multiple can be pinned.

Recently Facebook have been testing Pinned posts in the Facebook Groups and these are being applied in many Groups that I am a member of.

For instance the likes of John Thornhill, Dan Summer and Carl Topping and their groups on Facebook have been utilising this feature. They use it to make announcements, lay down the rules and functions of the groups.

I came across this very quick video that I have chosen to embed below for ease of viewing.

    Hi Gary,

Good post. Seen this somewhere. When I clicked the pencil top rhs side there was no ‘Pin to Top’there at all. Is this on a created page or on normal FB if that makes sense. It’s a great idea if you want friends to notice something. Another good post mate.
